Going the distance

Last night as I was running on the treadmill, it occurred to me how much life is like a marathon. For those that don't know, a marathon is 26.2 miles - a long distance by almost anyone's standards. Running any distance requires preparation and training - you can't just run the entire distance immediately. It takes weeks, months or even years of training before you are ready to run a marathon. Isn't life a lot like that?
